Today we talked about owls since they also fly in the sky at night. We read
Whooo Is It, which is a fun book about a mother owl that is trying to track down a strange noise she keeps hearing. She searches all around the barn listening and looking as she listens to other noises and compares them to her mystery noise. The children loved guessing along with the book and listened very closely to discover the animal making the noise. It ends up being the baby owl making noise from inside the egg that the mother owl is sitting on. It hatches in the end of the book and the mystery is solved. Again, a lot about owls was learned as we read the story and talked about it afterward
As with the bat lesson earlier, the children loved making owls they could take home to show their families. The owls we made were big and everyone was so excited as
theirs was finished and they ran from the other room, where they were working with Miss Julie, to show me! I complimented each owl as I hung it on the white board.

The children have fun with projects like these. They think they are just learning about owls and don't realize all of the other things we learn about as we work. We talk about colors, shapes, and practice fine motor skills. The children are learning as they play which is what preschool is all about!!
