5 Little Pumpkins

We made a picture to go along with our 5 Little Pumpkins song.

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate,

The first one said, "My it's getting late!"

The second one said, "The witch is in the air."

The third one said, "We don't care."

The fourth one said, "Let's run and run and run."

The fifth one said, "I'm ready for some fun."

Ooooo went the wind, and out went the light,

Five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.

This assignment not only went with the song, but the numbered pumpkins had to be in the correct order, 1-5. And each pumpkin had to be colored, cut, and glued into place. The fence had to be put together, too.

This was one of the activities that we did as a whole class. I gave directions and they had to follow them, somewhat on their own. They did great!! Of course, we had to redirect them over and over again and offer lots of help, but this is one of the ways we get them ready for kindergarten. Following directions when there is only one teacher and 25 students is tricky. So, we try to practice, every chance we get.
