Why Oceans Matter

With Valentine's Day behind us, we are moving on to our new Ocean/Sea Life unit that will lead us to our field trip to the aquarium! We've been reading books to teach us about life in the water. We even watched a short two minute movie, on You Tube, as well. You can watch it right here. It was put out by National Geographic and is a brief, easy to understand, clip on the importance of our oceans. The children loved it. We watched it once quietly, then watched it again as we talked about it, named the animals we saw, and explained it in more preschool friendly ways!

The important numbers we are learning are showed in this short movie. We want the children to know that 72% of our Earth is covered in water and that 50% of the air we breathe comes from the ocean. We will make some charts to help explain these numbers, next week!
