Happy St. Patrick's Day... a little early

St. Patrick's Day always fall during Spring Break!! So, all the fun things teachers can do, I usually don't get to do. This year, we did them, we just did them early! We talked about these shapes...shamrocks!!
We talked about the leprechauns, and rainbows, and gold, and wearing green, and eating green food. We covered it all in just one day and the preschoolers said, "That's why you have those green shamrocks all over your house." Yes, they were catching on.

Then I convinced the children that I'd contacted the leprechauns and asked them to come early to help us celebrate. We talked about how sometimes if you leave your shoes outside for St. Patrick's Day, the leprechauns will leave chocolate in your shoes. So, we decided to try it! We left our shoes in the driveway.
Then, we finished our centers before coming back out to check our shoes and were excited to see not only chocolate in our shoes, but a sweet message from the leprechauns.
The preschoolers were SO excited for the little chocolate surprise and can't wait to try again on the actual holiday.

We also made shamrock number lines and painted shamrock pictures of gold.

So, your children are all set for the big holiday this weekend. Make them wear green and feed them something green, too. My boys can't wait to have green pancakes. They should be able to tell you all about St. Patrick's Day. Ask them about it and see what they remember.
