Today, as we started preschool and all of the toys came out for "free play" time, a boy who was very determined, dumped out the tub of trucks and cars. He then meticulously placed them into a square shape following the square pattern of the rug in our classroom. Then he very proudly said, "Hey guys, I made a square!"
I, of course, made a big deal about his square, because I was so excited that he did it all on his own. As I did this children all around the room started working, grabbing whatever toys were around them.
There was a triangle made from blocks...
There was a square made from dominos...
There was a letter "L" made from blocks...
And the start of another square made from dinosaurs...
This is what happens during "free play" time. They children use what we've taught them as they play!! I promise you that your children are learning each and every day, even if they tell you all they do is play!!
